Perched above Wharfe Street, with views across Ōamaru and towards the sea, Quarterdeck is a relaxed, maritime-inspired retreat whose character takes its cue from the town’s fascinating seafaring past.

Ōamaru’s peaceful harbour was once one of New Zealand’s most treacherous shipping anchorages. Ships, sailors and the trade that eventually flowed through its protected harbour played an important part in shaping the town we know today.

With the harbour just moments away, we wanted Quarterdeck to carry a subtle connection to that story. Its maritime colours, and curated nautical details and touches are our small tribute to Ōamaru’s seafaring heritage.

One of Quarterdeck’s greatest pleasures is its location. The historic Victorian Precinct, cafés, restaurants, shops and many of Oamaru’s best-known attractions are within easy walking distance, so you can leave the car behind and explore the town at your own pace.

Then, when you're ready to retreat, head back up the hill, put your feet up and enjoy the changing views across the town and sea.

What we love most: Quarterdeck has a real 'Kiwi Bach' feel and manages to feel tucked away above the town while still being wonderfully close to everything.
